A spirit level is a device consisting of a sealed glass tube partially filled with alcohol or other liquid, containing an air bubble whose position reveals whether a surface is perfectly level. The level is found to be exactly vertical or exactly horizontal if and only if the relevant tube bubble is in the centre and opposite to the direction of gravitational force.
How to use
Put the spirit level on the surface for checking. If the bubble is not in the centre, that means that the level isn’t perfectly horizontal or vertical. Thereafter, relevant changes can be made to make the surface levelled.
