Files are crafting tools that are used for various purposes such as making the surface of a metal smooth, making the corners round, putting impact for creating depth on glass, metal or wood. There are a variety of files for different purposes. Generally, there are two types of files that we’ll be using:-
1. Mini file set (working length – 3 inches)
2. File set (working length – 6 inches)
How to use
A file is usually used with both hands. Put one hand on the handle, and the other one softly on the edge. Then, push and pull it across the surface horizontally, creating maximum friction. Do this repeatedly and you’ll start seeing the desired result.
Common applications
1. to make corners of materials rounded for safety.
2. to make the surface smoother and shinier.
Safety Measures to follow
1. Hold the file properly and securely while using.
2. Don’t use a file if its teeth become dull.
