Alligator connectors

Alligator connectors

A crocodile connector, also known as alligator connector is a type of connecting cable which has crocodile mouth shaped jaws to make temporary connections by clipping the connector. It is used for making temporary connections, which makes it reusable. The cable has two ends. Some cables might have alligator connector jaws on both ends and some might have it on only one end.

How to use

To use the alligator connector, we just need to squeeze it around its rubber tip, and then the connectors’ jaws open up. Then, we can plug it with wires or pins to make the connection. It is as simple as that!

Common Applications

1. Making connections between two devices or wires.

Some example projects that students can try out in the ATL Lab

1. Make a circuit and measure the voltage using alligator connectors and a multimeter.

Safety Measures to follow

1. Don’t touch the metallic jaw of the connector when it is being used at a high voltage and is in ON state.
2. Don’t put the jaws on relatively softer material if you want to avoid marks on it.
